Melancholy and Dance
This work represents a dance between memory and desire. Melancholy and Dance is a waltz between time itself.
There are moments when we leave the present without taking a single step. It just happens all of a sudden without our control.
As the couple going for a waltz on the upper left corner, there is a main woman figure remaining in the present, while her mind drifts to the sea of her childhood and to a future she once imagined back then. A future she already knows will never come to be. Memory and longing become indistinguishable in this moment, and the dance unfolds not between two lovers, but between what was, what could have been, and what remains only in dreams. This painting exists in the fragile space where the past becomes refuge, the future becomes fantasy, and the present just quietly disappears, because she is so wasted either in the past or in the future…
